Reigning Scottish Amateur Champion and Paul Lawrie Foundation player, Sam Locke, bested the field of 72 at Renaissance Club at Archerfield, to qualify, in first place, for The 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie.

Sam’s seven-under par total (rounds of 69 & 66) were strong enough to hold off the challenges of fellow-Scot, Grant Forrest and Tom Curtis of England, both of whom also qualified to play in the biggest event of them all at the Angus venue in just two weeks’ time.

The 19 year-old, who works at Clarets Coffee Shop at the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre when he’s not competing in elite amateur golf events, is now looking forward to teeing-it-up alongside some of the game’s greats and will prepare for it with the help of Paul, who’ll be on-hand to help mentor and guide Sam. With his vast experience of The Open, Paul know’s exactly the kind of pressures the amiable, young Aberdonian will now face and will be assisting Sam in his preparations over the next 10 days.
