ACADEMY

The Paul Lawrie Academy allows some of the most talented girls and boys in Scotland to take part in the coaching sessions over 4 different regions in Scotland. Experienced PGA & Scottish Golf Performance Coach, Spencer Henderson, alongside Paul, oversee each of the Sessions.

The sessions involve several competitive skills challenges – putting, driving, approach play and short-game which allow the juniors to improve their technical skills so they can take it out on to the golf course. In the afternoon of these sessions, Paul plays alongside the players over 9 holes, chosen specifically to discuss things like course management and strategic decision – making skills. Each session is finished off with a Q&A with the players where they have the opportunity to ask Paul questions about various topics to help better their game.

Each year The Paul Lawrie Academy runs a performance series which sees the country split into 4 geographical regions where the leading players from each region qualify for a Grand Final. The best 4 scores out of 5 count towards each region’s overall score in the final event. In 2022 the inaugural winner was the team from the South Region which comprised of Fergus Brown, Ava Graham, Evie MacCallum, Blair Roberts and James Wood.

DEVELOPMENT

The Paul Lawrie Foundation also has a development squad which consists of boys and girls (up to 14-years-old), who have been selected for the development squad through showing potential in various different events and coaching sessions. The Foundation have supported the kids through supplying clothing as well as regular coaching sessions on a Friday evening with Assistant PGA Professionals Rory Cromarty and Jack Chalmers. The coaching sessions focus on things like course management and technical tuition to help the kids improve.

In October last year, The Paul Lawrie Foundation took part in their first squad match against The Stephen Gallacher Foundation at Forfar Golf Club. A dozen under-14 juniors from each foundation battled it out over 18 holes in four ball matchplay. The Paul Lawrie Foundation came out victorious and didn’t lose a match the whole day! The second addition of this event is arranged for October this year where we look forward to defending the title.
