Pau Lawrie Foundation Junior Jug 2017

Ruari Mair (Buckpool) completed a wire-to-wire win in this year's Paul Lawrie Foundation Junior Jug event, held at Fairmont St Andrews Kittocks Course.

Despite the extremely challenging playing conditions - players had to contend with winds gusting between 25mph and 38mph for their first two rounds on Saturday - Ruari controlled the flight of his ball the best and kept his concentration to card an excellent opening score of 74 (+3) and followed-up with a 76 (+5) to give himself a 4 shot advantage going in to the 3rd round.

Conditions eased slightly for Sunday's 3rd round but the wind continued to gust at around 20mph.

Playing with Ewan Wheat (Royal Montrose), Ruari put himself under real pressure as he faltered to a nine on the par 5, fifth hole.  This allowed Ewan to draw level with Ruari but the Buckpool youngster steadied the ship and showed composure over the very difficult closing holes to holf off the challenge of both Wheat and, eventual runner-up, Campbell Gibson (Blairgowrie).
