Our Boys & Girls Scratch Match Play Finals at Newmachar Golf Club had been threatened with cancellation due the sodden ground conditions, the result of several weeks of wet weather in the BNorth East of Scotland. However, a break in the rainfall allowed the greens staff at Newmachar's Hawkshill to have it playable for our Finals.
In the Girls Final, clubmates at Aboyne, Shannon McWilliam and Carmen Griffiths faced-off. On this occassion, Shannon dominated her opponent winning by a margin of 7&5 over last year's Champion. In her final year being eligible to play, Shannon claimed her third PLF Scratch Match Play title - her 3rd victory in 4 years.
Liam Waldron (Royal Aberdeen) took on Finaly Smith of McDonald GC, Ellon in the Boys Final after both had defeated Deeside GC players in their Semi-Finals Matches - Liam defeating Jason Bruce after sudden-death took the pair to 21 holes and Finlay turming around a half-way deficit to win 2&1 against Nicholas Black.
In the Boys' Final, Liam had been 4-up through 9 holes before back-to-back birdies for Finaly saw him reduce the margin to two holes after 11. It was tighter for a couple of holes but a win at the Par 3 15th so Liam extend his lead to three holes and he was able to close out the match on the following hole - a 3&2 win.
